Last week, my family and I set off on a culinary adventure to a place called ‘Muhan Gejang’ nestled in Daeya-dong, Siheung City, in the province of Gyeonggi-do. With an aim to savor the two iconic dishes of Korea – Ganjang Gejang (Soy Sauce Marinated Crab) and Yangnyeom Gejang (Spicy Marinated Crab), we stepped into the inviting space of the restaurant.

What immediately stood out were the incredibly affordable prices. The crab set meal was priced at a reasonable 20,000 won per person, and the mouthwatering Flower Crab Seafood Soup came in at 23,000 won. The hearty portions and authentic flavors made this seem like an absolute steal!

In Korea, Ganjang Gejang and Yangnyeom Gejang have earned the affectionate nickname ‘bapdoduk,’ which translates to ‘rice thief.’ This nickname implies how irresistible these dishes are with rice – you’ll find yourself reaching for more helpings without even realizing it. It’s no wonder that we ended up ordering not just the marinated crabs, but also the Mackerel and the Flower Crab Seafood Soup.

The Ganjang Gejang and Yangnyeom Gejang, slathered in a savory, delicious sauce, were truly ‘bapdoduk.’ One of the quintessential ways Koreans enjoy these dishes is by mixing the rice with the rich, savory contents of the crab shell. The combination of the soft, fluffy rice with the robust flavors of the marinated crab was nothing short of a gastronomic revelation.

However, the showstopper of the meal was the piping hot Flower Crab Seafood Soup. This soup, chock-full of various seafood such as crab, shrimp, and fish, was so delightfully hearty. The generous amount of seafood lent a delicious richness to the broth, leaving us warmed and satisfied.

Our visit to Muhan Gejang offered a foray into the rich tapestry of Korean flavors and traditional dishes. If you’re a fan of Korean cuisine, or even just a food lover in general, a meal at Muhan Gejang is an experience that should be on your must-try list. It’s a delightful culinary journey that leaves you with a fuller stomach and a greater appreciation for the depth and variety of Korean cuisine.

If you’re looking for a spellbinding gastronomic experience that transcends the ordinary, visiting Muhan Gejang should be your top priority. Revel in the tantalizing harmony of robust flavors and textures that elevate Korean cuisine to sublime heights.
