I recently had the opportunity to visit the new experiential store, Samsung Gangnam, and I can’t wait to share my impressions with you. Opened on June 29th, 2023, Samsung Gangnam is conveniently located near Exit 10 of Gangnam Station, making it easily accessible for visitors. Spanning from the basement service center to the 5th floor of a large building, this store offers a unique and immersive experience.
The Ground Floor: Where the Exciting Journey Begins
As soon as you enter the store, you’ll find yourself on the ground floor, where the adventure begins. It features large-scale displays and a photo zone, creatively conveying the brand’s message in an engaging way. One prominent exhibit is the oversized ‘HUG Bears,’ sculptures made from recycled plastic. These bears symbolize Samsung Electronics’ commitment to environmental innovation, and the video displayed by the bears emphasizes the importance of resource circulation.
An Exhibition Space with Anycall’s History
In one corner, there’s a dedicated exhibition space showcasing the history of Anycall, a mobile brand by Samsung Electronics. However, the selection criteria for the exhibition models seemed a bit peculiar.
From the 2nd Floor: Experiencing Samsung’s Latest Products
Starting from the 2nd floor, you’ll find a space dedicated to experiencing Samsung Electronics’ products firsthand. The “Retail Dossants” booths allow visitors to try out various Samsung mobile devices, including the latest Galaxy smartphones, tablets, wearables, and other IT products. It’s an excellent opportunity to explore the diverse range of Samsung’s mobile lineup. Moreover, you can discover unique collaboration accessories that are often hard to find online. Exclusive accessories, available only at Samsung Gangnam, are also on display.
SLBS Studio and Center Coffee on the 3rd Floor
On the 3rd floor, you’ll find the bustling SLBS Studio. This space attracts many visitors as it allows them to design accessories using tablets and order them made from eco-friendly materials. People eagerly line up to receive their custom creations. Additionally, the presence of Center Coffee, a renowned coffee shop previously only found in Seoul Forest, Seoul Station, and Myeongdong, adds to the excitement of the Samsung Gangnam experience.
An Auditorium for Engaging Talks and Classes
The 3rd floor also houses an auditorium where various special lectures and classes are held. With its tiered seating arrangements, it reminds me of the Samsung Store in Hongdae. Samsung Electronics plans to offer a range of differentiated classes that cater to the preferences of MZ generations, including students and working professionals.
The 4th Floor: Immersive Media Walls and Vibrant Events
Upon reaching the 4th floor, you’ll encounter large-scale media walls created with micro LED TV screens, which serve as backdrops for various events. The space also features a flexible area where diverse activities take place.
Impressions: A Unique Playground-like Experience
Overall, Samsung Gangnam Store offers a distinctive experience that sets it apart from Apple stores. Samsung’s concept for this space is evident, and it truly feels like a playground designed for MZ generations. The vibrant colors and playful atmosphere make it a must-visit destination when you’re in Gangnam. However, it’s worth noting that the vertical layout of the store, spanning four floors, may feel somewhat crowded at times. Nevertheless, the dynamic display of smartphones, wearables, and collaborative accessories creates a captivating environment. Although some products may seem repetitive, Samsung Gangnam strives to provide a diverse art exhibition-like experience.
